United Arab Emirates is a country with the best free economic zones. 13 UAE free economic zones are placed amogst 50 best economic zones of the future according to the ranking prepared by fDi. Number one is Dubai Airport (Dafza) Free Zone, which is based on a 700,000-square-metre site. Dafza already atraccted 1450 companies, mostly from Europe and Japan. In the future Dafza plans to focus more on the Far East and to attract another 1500 companies. Eastern European countries ranked quite well. Top ranked is Freeport of Ventspils from Latvia on 7th place. There are 3 free economic zones from Latvia amogst 50 best and 4 from Poland. South Eastern Europe also has perpective free economic zones. There is one zone one the list from each of the Balkan states Croatia and Macedonia while Serbia is on the list with 2 zones. There is just one top 50 zone from China – Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone on 3rd place. United States, Western Europe and Russia have just one economic zone amogst top 50 as well.
