Yandex, the largest European internet company operating Russia’s most popular search engine and most visited website, released a new version of its browser equipped with the Opera Turbo technology. Now, users of Yandex.Browser can enjoy flawless browsing even with a weak internet connection.

Yandex integrated Opera Turbo into Yandex.Browser to significantly improve the internet experience for those of its users who are still suffering from a slow internet connection, for example, through 3G or public Wi-Fi. The Opera Turbo technology reduces the size of web pages on the server-side by up to 75 percent without transcoding them, which makes them download up to four times faster. The Turbo mode in Yandex.Browser allows its users to view websites at a broadband speed even on a weak connection, which saves not only their time but also their money, especially for those users on a pay-as-you-use plan.

The Turbo mode in Yandex.Browser activates automatically when the upload speed drops to 128 Kbps, and deactivates when it breaks the 512 Kbps barrier. This mode can also be managed manually. The Opera Turbo technology implemented in Yandex.Browser’s Turbo mode does not compress dynamic web content, such as video or audio files or flash banner ads, or reduce encrypted pages, such as online banking accounts or personal email.
